What you can do here

Buttons, fields, and controls

Template Name	Basic Info	What you call this template internally.	Name it for the products it covers, e.g. “Sneakers — standard”.
Template Content	Main editor	The eBay title and description, with variables where per-product details go.	Write it as you would by hand, then swap product-specific words for variables.
Available Variables	Beside the editor	The list of blanks you can use. “Click to insert into template” drops one in at your cursor.	Click them rather than typing them — a mistyped variable simply will not fill in.
Title Preview / Description Preview	Template Preview panel	Shows the template filled in with real product details.	Always read it before saving. It is the only reliable way to catch a variable in the wrong place.
Category Filter / Brand Filter / Product Type Filter / Condition Filter	Filters	Limits which products use this template.	Use them when a group genuinely needs different wording, such as pre-owned pairs.
Set as Default	Template row actions	Makes this the template used when no more specific one matches.	Keep exactly one default at all times.
Sort Order	Basic Info	Where this template appears in the list. Lower numbers appear first.	Put the ones you use most at the top.
Show inactive	Filters	Reveals templates you have switched off.	Turn it on to find and restore an old template rather than rewriting it.
Usage	Templates table	How many listings are using this template.	Check it before editing — a template with high usage changes a lot of listings at once.

How to: Create your first eBay template

1. Click to create a template and give it a name.
2. In Template Content, write your title, using “Available Variables” to insert product details.
3. Write the description the same way.
4. Read the Title Preview and Description Preview — they show real product details filled in.
5. Save, then use “Set as Default” if this should cover everything not matched by a more specific template.

A title template comes out as “Nike Dunk Low Panda Size 10.5 — Brand New in Box” on the live eBay listing.

How to: Give one category its own wording

1. Create a new template for that group.
2. Write the copy the way you want it to read.
3. Set the Category Filter, Brand Filter, Product Type Filter, or Condition Filter to match the group.
4. Leave it as non-default so your general template still covers everything else.
5. Check the preview, then save.

Apparel needs sizing wording that makes no sense on sneakers, so it gets its own template via the Product Type Filter.

How to: Change a template that is already live

1. Check the Usage column so you know how many listings this affects.
2. Open the template and make your edit.
3. Read both previews carefully — this copy is about to apply broadly.
4. Save.

A template used by 412 listings gets a returns line added to the description, so all 412 pick it up rather than you editing each.

Good to know

• Insert variables by clicking them in “Available Variables”. A typed variable that does not exactly match simply will not fill in.
• Always read the Title Preview and Description Preview. eBay titles have a length limit, and the preview is where you will notice it.
• Check the Usage count before editing a live template — you are editing every listing that uses it.
• Keep one default template so nothing goes out with empty copy.
